My Two Cents on Boyfriend Jeans

I can definitely see the allure that boyfriend jeans have – they’re comfortable and they hide the extra few pounds that we girls tend to put on in the winter season. What they don’t do is show off our curves when we’ve slimmed up for the spring.

I’ve always been a big fan of the female body and I design all my jeans to flatter our curvy shape. That’s why I introduced the one-inch zipper into my clothing line – to hide any excess bulge and to prevent the bulky, baggy look.

I think boyfriend jeans would be perfect for those lazy Sundays or for doing chores for the comfort they provide. But for a girl’s night out and to attract those guys, nothing beats a skinny, low rise pair of hip huggers.

While I think the boyfriend jeans might be a good complement to your casual wear wardrobe, I can’t justify the cost of buying a pair of designers for a trend that may only last this spring season. So, I have the perfect solution if you want a new pair of boyfriends and a new pair of hip huggers this spring – steal your boyfriend’s pair! And use the money you save to buy a tight pair that will make the boys notice well into summer.

A Fathers dilemma of "The One Inch Zipper"

I recently had an interesting experience shopping with my wife and teenage girls that in my mindtypifies the transition of thinking like a man and thinking like a father. I'll explain. Ever heard of Dorinha?I vaguely recall seeing her name in the local newspaper. Turns out she's an up and comer in the fashion industry (Brazil, Europe, US etc.).

Her claim to fame...The 1 inch zipper Kinda brings a smile to the face no matter how hard you try to remove it. It turns out 3 times a year Dorinha has a huge sale here in Vancouver where she opens shop in a warehouse and is on site to facilitate the event. Wall to wall girls/ women trying to find the perfect fit with the 1 inch zipper...hhmmm.

Now I'll say right now that I was dead set against letting my daughters anywhere near this place...but with careful consideration, off we went with an open mind to see what this event was all about.

Get to this warehouse, through a door, up some stairs, a few lefts, then a few rights and behold...thousands of 1 inch zippers.

As a dutiful dad, I let my wife and girls go do their 'thing' and I took up space meandering aimlesslythrough the 'sea'. I recognized this petite woman who I correctly guessed as Dorinha. I struck up a conversation and she surprisingly gave me about 10 minutes of her time. She asked me how I liked the jeans and alas my dilemma...I told her I have mixed feelings about the 1 inch zipper as I'm a father to teenage girls. She smiles and understands where I'm coming from. She explains the 1 inch zipper was created, not to bring the level of the pant down to the nether-regions, but to remove the 'bulge' that bunches in the crotch area, thus making girls look like guys.

I explain this to qualify why I would even entertain the idea of letting my girls buy a pair of these jeans. As it turns out, the jeans are not as skimpy as one might think. They just have a 1 inch zipper. So my fears of purchasing jeans where with your bill of sale is passed with a bick shaver and cream, had been put to rest.

This whole experience struck me as somewhat surreal in that this is one of those moments where as a father you're hit in the face with two very different emotions about the same thing. BTW, we did buy 5 or 6 pairs that passed stringent scrutinization of both mom and dad.

I will continue to be one of those dads that greets all leg-humpers with arms crossed and a growl under my breath...Ain't fatherhood grand!

I must Say your speech at the end was the perfect bland of wit and driven passion. As the end of my school year is nearing (september 07) I wanted to try and get my foot in the door in terms of becoming a fashion designer. I love your sexy brazillian designs, and my Sister is a HUGE fan of your clothing as well.
I also believe that today, sexy can often be over done or done in the wrong way so in an attempt to not make the wrong move the modern woman shy away from anything sexy or revealing. I really want the oportunity to work with you as an assistant and learn the core of dorinha wear as I believe you represent somone one truely important in todays society (especially since your designs help women to understand curves are important and sexy). Your jeans are great, I love them so much. I’ve bought many other jeans, try them on and love them, but after I wear them for about 20 minutes they loose their shape and look awful. K But with Dorinha’s I look sexi all the time, they don’t loose their shape-and best of all…they’re so damn comfortable!!!!! Hi.
I just want to pass on a story to you about your jeans. I thought that my daughter emailed and told you but she didn't so I will.
For my daughters 12th birthday I bought her a pair of Dorinha's.
She wanted them so bad and loved them.
We were up visiting friends on the Kettle River campground near Kelowna,BC.
My husband took our 4 kids down the rapids. About a 45 minute ride on tubes. My brother dropped them off at the start of the rapids and then the end of the rapids is where we were visiting at the campground.
Well... My husband told the kids to leave there clothes in my brothers truck and just go down with your bathing suits. They didn't listen so the clothes were taken off and the kids were in there bathing suits. They gave the clothes to my husband and he had to carry them on his tube.
The rapids got quite rough and the clothes got lost off the tube. Including the Dorinha's. After they came back to the campground they were so upset .
I went looking for them with my sister in law. No sign of them.
3 weeks later my husband went camping with my brother to the same campground.
They went fishing in the rapids. Guess what my brother fished up. The Dorinha Jeans. They were stone washed and shriveled up. My husband brought them home. The pink belt had faded to a beige and the little metals holes had rusted in the belt. We washed the jeans and everytime my daughter wears them someone asks her. Where did you get those cool jeans. Or she is very creative and artistic. They ask her how did you do that to your jeans. The Jeans stand the test of time and elements.
Keep up the good work. Her size 0 Dorinhas will be in her collection of memory's for a very long time.

Moving from Brazil to Canada, would you have the courage and faith to come to a new country? In life we have many decisions to make, some will change your life in a positive way if you have what it takes.

Dorinha is a risk taker. Taking risks is a large contribution to success and fulfillment. Several of the risks Dorinha has taken have ended in her favor. For example, although she left her home country and friends, a very humongous amount of opportunity came out of it.

Dorinha is a hard worker and very disciplined. A couple of times in your life you have to give your heart away, you choose what it’s to. Dorinha put her whole soul into her young company, now I can hopefully find something in my life for me to do the same thing. With her career choice she gets to expose herself for who she is, when I come to the crossroads I hope I made the right decision too.

Dorinha has taught me that I’m my own best teacher. The things I teach myself will be the things I understand and can work on the most. Just like Dorinha understood and developed her own style, instead of using other’s ideas. This is because you put your own touch into everything you do, and this is what makes your thought yours.

Miracles come with many things. They aren’t just flukes that are bestowed upon us. Creativity, discipline and risks are simply building blocks to reaching your dreams.
